THE CHANGERS

"Surprising Blessings"

What You Need To Know:

THE CHANGERS is a unique reality show on gmc tv. In the pilot episode, the two hosts ask Scott, an extreme sports surfer, if he’d like a different adventure, a real thrill. When he says yes, they tell him he’s going to be a wedding planner for a woman named Jessica. Jessica has severe breast cancer. Her fiancé, Kurt, is a welder. The whole community is coming together to give Jessica her dream wedding. It’s up to Scott to figure out how to do this, with the help of a real wedding planner.

There are some extremely poignant moments in the pilot episode, especially the ending. As in any reality show, there are moments that are too expository that don’t move the story along. As it is, the show contains some real Christian content. It also has some wedding participants who clearly aren’t Christian, so it’s not a show for younger viewers. Overall, this show will bring tears to your eyes, capture your heart, and maybe awaken your own Good Samaritan. If you enjoy uplifting Reality TV shows, THE CHANGERS is definitely one to watch.

Content:

(C, BB, V, N, A, M) Light Christian worldview with strong moral perspective in a reality show format helping people change their lives from selfish to unselfish; no foul language; man does extreme sports, including jumping off cliffs; but nothing overtly troubling; no sex but some kissing; upper male nudity on surfer dude; perhaps alcohol in background at wedding; no smoking; and, selfish guy is turned into caring individual, with a woman priest performing a wedding.

More Detail:

THE CHANGERS has some powerful moments that will bring joy to your heart and tears to your eyes. This is a unique reality show because it’s based on helping someone out besides yourself. As Director Dave Johnson says, “It’s a ‘walk a mile in my shoes’ type of show. . . a movement called ‘Everyday Philanthropy.’” As such, the movement is like putting the Christian concept of the Good Samaritan into action.

In the pilot episode, the two hosts, Beverly Adams and Michael, Jr., surprise a surfer, extreme sport fanatic named Scott just as he’s just carrying his board out of the surf. Scott is an All-American guy who loves thrills such as jumping off cliffs and has no desire to get tied down.

Beverly and Michael ask Scott if he’d like a different adventure, a real thrill. When he says yes, they tell him he’s going to be a wedding planner for a woman named Jessica. Jessica has severe breast cancer. She lives in Santa Barbara…but in a trailer community. Her fiancé, Kurt, is a welder. The whole community is coming together to give Jessica her dream wedding. It’s up to Scott to figure out how to do this, with the help of a real wedding planner named Alex. So, the question is, can Scott move beyond self-gratification to care about others?

There are some extremely poignant moments in this program, especially the ending. As in any reality show, there are moments that are too expository and that don’t move the story along. It would have been nice to have some humor as a counterpoint to the pathos.

As it is, the show has some real Christian content woven throughout it. It also has some participants in the wedding who clearly aren’t Christian, so it’s not a show for younger viewers.

Overall, however, this show will bring tears to your eyes, capture your heart, and maybe open your life to Everyday Philanthropy. If you enjoy uplifting Reality TV shows, THE CHANGERS is definitely one to watch.
