More Detail:

THE GUILT TRIP stars Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogan in a comedy about a man who, in a moment of guilt, invites his Jewish mother on a business trip. THE GUILT TRIP has a positive pro-family message but contains many crude elements requiring strong or extreme caution.

Andy Brewster has created a cleaning product called “Scienoclean.” He’s taking a road trip to help get it funded and distributed. Starting his trip in his hometown, he’s able to spend some time with his mother, Joyce. Being a very loving mother, Joyce worries about Andy’s happiness. In an effort to connect with her son, Joyce tells Andy about her long lost love, also named Andy, whom she met before marrying Andy’s father.

Suddenly, Andy has a desire to find his mother’s first love. Finding the man in San Francisco, Andy decides his mother should meet with him. Joyce is thrilled when Andy asks her on his business trip. Not knowing the reason behind Andy’s invitation, Joyce thinks it’s just to spend quality time with her son.

Going from place to place and state to state, Andy isn’t able to pitch his product very well, but doesn’t tell his mother about his failure. Completely in mother fashion, Joyce tries to give Andy some supportive criticism and suggestions, along with many other life suggestions. As the car ride continues, the two are able to bond like never before.

THE GUILT TRIP is a pro family movie where the love between a mother and a son is honored. Though this is the case, there is some very crude commentary that warrants strong caution, including many light profanities and some other foul language, mixed with some pagan elements, plus light homosexual content about being a hermaphrodite. There’s also some drunkenness and a visit to an “exotic” dance club with girls in skimpy outfits.

That said, viewers are able to really connect with Joyce. She will remind many people of their own mothers. THE GUILT TRIP has a clear plot line and good acting. Also, it provides many clean laughs among the crude moments.
