What Is The Most Watched Genre on TV?

Sports and reality shows scored a major touchdown for 2019-2020 network TV ratings.
Variety reported, “Ratings just aren’t as critical as they used to be, given the multiple ways people now consume content — and the long tail of that consumption. But they remain the most common way to compare the linear performance of shows both on broadcast and cable.”
With many forgoing cable TV for streaming or due to high costs, the findings are telling of what the public wants to consume.
Variety highlighted Nielsen’s data of the “winners” and “losers” of the 2019-2020 TV year, which came to a close on May 20, 2020.
Additionally, Variety displayed the “100 TOP-RATED SERIES OF 2019-2020 (ADULTS 18-49).”
Sunday, Monday and Thursday night NFL football scored the top three spots on the leaderboard of out of the 100 series. Fox’s engaging vocal reality TV competition, THE MASKED SINGER, took the fourth place. Scripted series like GREY’S ANATOMY, CHICAGO PD and THIS IS US also made the top 10.

Movieguide® Award-nominated series BLUE BLOODS landed the No. 6 spot for “TOP 100 SHOWS OF 2019-2020, TOTAL VIEWERS.” NBC and Fox came out ahead on this category, and ABC’s THE GOOD DOCTOR took the No. 12 spot.
