While at the neighborhood coffee shop, Wired, Alexa and Katie chat about Spencer, the boy with whom Alexa has been talking, when Spencer suddenly walks into the shop. Katie and Spencer are delighted to meet one another finally because Alexa talks about them a lot, but Alexa’s been avoiding situations where they could meet. Meanwhile, Katie is concerned about the mysterious new man her single mother is dating.

Cut to school. Katie starts to piece together her mom’s love life and thinks she might be dating a man named Mike. Gwenny, a classmate of Katie and Alexa, says her father’s name is Mike. This puts Katie’s teeth on edge.

Cut to Alexa’s personal counseling appointment. She goes on and on about not wanting Spencer to come to her basketball game, but her counselor suspects this is a way for Alexa to “keep things safe” in her life and not confront hard issues. Spencer does end up coming to her game and garners an invite to dinner at Alexa’s house via her parents.

Alexa, Katie and Gwenny stake out who they think is dating Katie’s mom’s date, only to find out it’s actually not her mom, it’s Gwenny’s. It looks like Gwenny’s parents might be getting back together after their divorce.

Cut to dinner at Alexa’s house. Spencer comes and things seem easy for everyone but Alexa. Spencer also has cancer like Alexa used to have, but it’s not the same kind. Is a romance between Spencer and Alexa in the offing?
