Chip and Joanna Gaines Return to Renovation Roots in FIXER UPPER: WELCOME HOME

By Movieguide® Staff

The beloved renovation duo, Chip and Joanna Gaines, have returned to the small screen!

The couple debuted the first episode of their new show, FIXER UPPER: WELCOME HOME, on the streaming service discovery+ on Jan. 29. The original FIXER UPPER ended in 2018.

The reboot WELCOME HOME follows the Gaines as they renovate new life into outdated homes.

The Gaines are also excited to move WELCOME HOME, along with a whole list of shows, to their Magnolia Network when it officially launches in late 2021.

“The day we wrapped our final episode of Fixer Upper, we really believed it was a chapter closed. We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again,” the Gaines previously told Fox News.

“These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don’t think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts. We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you,” they concluded.

Magnolia’s original launch was delayed because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Magnolia will focus on family-friendly content with shows about home, garden, food, wellness, and design.

“Our intention with this network is to create and curate content that inspires, encourages, and helps to build bridges across our communities. We want honest, authentic programming that brings families together,” Chip and Joanna said.

Movieguide® reported previously on the Gaines constant emphasis on faith and family:

When the series first launched, the couple had four young children. They’ve since welcomed another son, Crew.

“We want to be smart when it comes to our kids,” Joanna said. “When we first started the show, they were younger, and since they’re a part of so much of what we do, it was just organic to include them.”

Joanna continued: “But toward the end, I started noticing, they don’t necessarily love this. Now, if they volunteer to be a part, we are more than happy, but we never want to just force it for a scene. They can make that choice. We’ll see as much of the kids as they want to give us.”

The new season of FIXER UPPER will premiere on the Magnolia Network along with 14 original programs also in production, including GROWING FLORETS
