Bryce, who plays on the school’s baseball team, notices that, after one of his games, he has a headache. At first, Bryce believes it’s nothing serious, but his father decides to take him to the doctors just to be safe.

Upon an initial diagnosis, nothing appears to be wrong with Bryce, and they are sent home. However, Bryce wakes his father in the middle of the night with another headache, and they return to the hospital.

Dr. Getty, played by Dean Cain, discovers that Bryce has an aggressive brain cancer that must be treated immediately with surgery and chemotherapy. Both Bryce and his father are in shock at the diagnosis and call his mother to tell her the bad news.

Meanwhile, a car mechanic draws the attention of a local news station after offering work for free to veterans. The mechanic, Ed Hanson, has made a name for himself for his kindness and generosity. Hanson’s wife ends up being one of the nurses who sees Bryce during his time in the hospital.

While the initial surgery goes well, Bryce and his family are once again hit with bad news when Dr. Getty says the cancer’s still there. The community of Cathedral Catholic and their local town gather to pray for a miracle for Bryce Newman. During Bryce’s battle with cancer, his previously separated parents also begin to mend and heal their broken relationship.
