You Can Change Hollywood — This Christian Actor Explains How

Kevin Sorbo explained why Christians need to stick up for their beliefs, both those who are working on projects in Hollywood and those consuming content throughout their day-to-day lives.

“Go for it because it has a great impact,” Sorbo told Kirk Cameron when asked what he would say to people thinking about working on Christian projects. “Right now, I tell you I get every week, every week I get at least half a dozen emails from people around the world…that say, ‘Your movies have made me turn into a Christian.’”

“You can see this happen, and I have read a number of articles that the faster growing countries of Christianity are Russia and China,” Sorbo continued. “So that shows you that communism, socialism, when it depresses people down to the lowest possible level, they get to that place, and they go, there’s gotta be something better than they start looking up which is pretty amazing.”

The way God can work to reach people through Christian projects is truly amazing. Unfortunately, Hollywood often shies away from making these movies and TV shows despite the popularity they often garner. While this has begun to change in recent years, the biggest impact the average person can have to shape the industry is to be selective with the content they choose to watch.

“Be more vocal. Stop watching the things that they’re putting out there that deal with all this negativity and anger and hate… Guys, there’s 80 million homes that want [faith-based content]. It is called show business. [These studios] can sit there and have their ideologies, but at the same time, they are a capital business,” Sorbo said. “[They] can pretend like they’re not, but let’s face it, Disney and Paramount want to make money.”

“I’ve got some great products. You’ve got some great products, and why we can’t get them out there in mainstream Hollywood? I wish I had the answer,” he continued. “The only thing I can say is that [the studios] would rather promote a darker secular point of view of the world than something that has light and hope and love and laughter in it.”

Despite the overwhelming production of these dark and immoral shows and movies, audiences remain undeterred in their desire for uplifting content. A recent study found that even young people desire hopeful, uplifting content above all else.

As for Sorbo, he remains committed to creating faith-filled, family-friendly content to fill that void.

“I’m going to keep fighting the good fight and doing the movies that I’m going to do,” he said in June of 2022. “I’m going to make the movies that have love, hope, laughter, redemption, faith. I want movies that move people and make them think about things. I like wild movies too, but I like to do the movies that I want to do.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Sorbo:

GOD’S NOT DEAD actor Kevin Sorbo is opening up about how Hollywood treated him after he began to post about Christian and conservative values on social media.

“My manager and agent called me in about a dozen years ago and said, ‘We can’t work with you anymore’ because [of] what I was posting on the internet. I said, ‘What am I posting? The truth?’” he told Erick Stakelbeck.

Sorbo, however, was the same person his agent hired 25 years prior. He explained that the agency that represented him didn’t like that he posted about his beliefs on social media. They told him “Things are shifting in Hollywood.”

“They certainly are, as we’re all seeing,” Sorbo said before adding, “and I laugh at that because, you know, they’re the ones who scream for tolerance, freedom of speech, but they’re hypocrites. It’s all a one-way street.”
