Christian music is entering the mainstream! Two singles from Christian artists have entered the Billboard Hot 100 and are climbing their way up the charts.
“Christian music is making a serious comeback,” Billboard declared, explaining that singles by Brandon Lake and Forrest Frank are currently on the Hot 100 chart.
Lake’s “Hard Fought Hallelujah” is currently sitting at No. 44 after 11 weeks on the chart, while Frank’s “Your Way’s Better” jumped from No. 72 to No. 62 after just two weeks on the Hot 100.
“Not counting holiday songs or Kanye West’s gospel songs, it is the first time in 11 years that multiple Christian songs have appeared on the chart,” Crosswalk pointed out, explaining that the last time this happened was in 2014, with Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water,” Craig Wayne Boyd’s “The Old Rugged Cross” and Hillsong UNITED’s “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail).”
Lake has long been popular in the worship music genre, but his career has been taking off in a major way recently. His duet with country star Jelly Roll on “Hard Fought Hallelujah” has brought his music to the mainstream — he even took the stage at this year’s Stagecoach festival to sing the track with Jelly Roll.
The Grammy-award winner recently dropped a surprise song, “SEVENS,” to celebrate the fact that his upcoming album has hit 20,000 pre-saves on Spotify. The album, King of Hearts, will debut June 13.
“I’m not sure if I knew who this record was for when I started writing it, but as the songs came the more I realized it was not for the seemingly put together, but rather those who are honest about their brokenness, but also have a desire to connect with their creator and experience Him in everyday life,” Lake posted on Instagram.
Frank is also enjoying some major career success. He was named Billboard’s No. 1 new Christian artist of 2023, and his 2024 album Child of God was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at this year’s Grammys.
Speaking to The Christian Post about his hit single “Good Day,” Frank said, “Three days after that song came out, I went through the hardest trial of my life. It was really interesting that God would give me a song that says, ‘I’m about to have a good day no matter what trial is going on,’ and then I had the hardest trial of my life.”
“I just released that baggage to Jesus, and now I’m having a good day,” he continued. “He doesn’t promise us a good day, but He promises us peace when we surrender to Him.”
Lake and Frank’s current mainstream popularity is a sign that Christian music is once again on the rise around the world.
