Breakout Christian musician Megan Woods explained how her hit song, “The Truth,” came from a season in her life when self-doubt ruined her self-esteem.

“I wrote ‘The Truth’ out of my deepest struggles,” Woods explained. “I grew up going through bullying and verbal abuse as a kid so I just felt not enough. I felt unworthy a lot. And it took me to my adult years, where I just realized: What is wrong with me? Like, I feel like I just don’t add up anywhere I go.”

“It wasn’t until I dove into the Word of God, and had a moment with the Lord in a really low moment. And the song kind of came from that moment of finding my true worth, my true identity in Christ.”

The song tells the story of the lies that the world feeds to us to make us feel like we are unworthy of love and affection, both from others and from God. However, it then reveals the truth shared in the Bible — that we all have inherent value which the Lord sees us with as He showers His unconditional love upon us.

“The truth is I am my Father’s child / I make Him proud and I make Him smile,” Woods sings in the chorus. “I was made in the image of a perfect King / He looks at me and wouldn’t change a thing / The truth is I am truly loved / By a God who’s good when I’m not good enough / I don’t belong to the lies, I belong to You / and that’s the truth.”

Building on the success of her breakout single, Woods has recently released a new song, “I Believe You,” which continues to build on her life experience as she sings about the hope she has found through the Lord.

“Recently, I walked through a season where I had lost hope and things looked impossible. I got to a moment where I was having trouble believing I was actually going to make it through,” Woods wrote on Instagram. “And then I was reminded of Isaiah 40:31 where it says, ‘But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.’”

“God promises to do the hard part if you and I can simply remember to rely on Him for strength and hope in the middle of a really tough season,” Woods continued. “God is fighting for me. He’s fighting for you too. I pray this song reminds you to believe.”

It is amazing to see how the Lord has redeemed situations in Woods’ life time and time again. Now as she turns those experiences into worship, she points millions of people to the Lord in times of trial.
