Baby JJ and friends will hit the big screen in the upcoming COCOMELON: THE MOVIE on Feb. 26, 2027.

Not many details of COCOMELON: THE MOVIE have been shared, except that it is based off the hit series COCOMELON. The 3-D animated show teaches kids life skills through music.

“From trying new veggies to winding down for bed, COCOMELON’s songs and content have become a go-to resource for millions of parents to learn and bond with their children,” COCOMELON producer Moonbug Entertainment wrote.

As Movieguide® previously pointed out, the completely song-driven series “doesn’t have strong episode themes, so it will be interesting to see JJ and his friends following a plot” in the upcoming movie.

Moonbug Entertainmrent, Flywheel Media, Prime Focus Studios and Dreamworks Animation produced the upcoming Universal Pictures release.

The wildly popular kid’s series debuted as a YouTube channel called CHECKGATE in 2006, before rebranding to ABC KID TV, then becoming COCOMELON in 2018. It has reached over 80 countries in more than 20 languages and garners more than 4 billion views on average on YouTube, reported Variety.

In 2020 Netflix added COCOMELON to its kid’s streaming option, where Netflix followed with spinoff series COCOMELON LANE, COCOMELON CLASSROOM and JJ’S ANIMAL TIME.

In 2027, COCOMELON makes the switch to Disney+ streaming, after Netflix decided not to renew its license for the musical show. Netflix reported about a 60% drop in viewership from 2023 to 2024, and Nielsen reported that the series dropped out of the Top 10 most watched acquired streaming programs in 2024, where it landed at No. 5 the previous year. Kid’s animated show BLUEY ranked No. 1 in acquired streaming programs for 2024, according to Nielsen.

This dip in ratings comes after backlash from an episode in the spinoff COCOMELON LANE that shows a boy, Nico, unable to decide what to wear for a family photo when his two dads sing reminding him that he loves to dance.

The boy emerges wearing a crown and a tutu, with one of the dad’s singing, “If you’re not sure what to choose, think about all the things you like to do. Just be you.”

Movieguide® expressed disappointment over the decision to include a same-sex couple and endorse gender confusion in what was previously a family-friendly show saying, “This is the first time in the franchise’s long history that its kid-safe, family-friendly image has been tarnished.”

However, in a review of COCOMELON’s 13th season, Movieguide® pointed out that the same-sex couple that was in COCOMELON LANE and appear in the intro song of the original series was absent from the latest season calling it a “pleasing change.”

Hopefully, with the upcoming movie, they will keep with wholesome, family-friendly themes that made the show a success in the first place.
