At age 87, longtime NFL coach Tom Moore announced his official retirement from the league after 62 years of coaching.
“It’s time for me to go home and take care of my wife,” Moore said, per Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud on X. “For 62 years, she made a lot of sacrifices so I could live a dream and it’s always been about Tom but now it’s about Willie.”
According to PEOPLE, he most recently served as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ senior offensive assistant, where he helped Tom Brady secure is seventh Super Bowl ring in 2021.
His wife, Willie, suffered from a stroke earlier this year.

“It’s time. I’ve been fortunate to land in a lot of great places. This is a great place,” Moore’s statement continued. “The Glazers are fantastic owners. It doesn’t get any better than Jason Licht as general manager. Todd [Bowles] is great…it’s a tough business. I’ve been blessed.”
Moore has coached football for 62 years, with nearly 50 of those being in the NFL.
He entered the NFL as the Steelers’ wide receivers coach in 1977, a position he served in until he became their offensive coordinator in 1983.
“He left the Steelers after the 1989 season and worked for the Vikings, Lions and Saints before becoming the Colts’ offensive coordinator in 1998. Moore became known for working closely with Peyton Manning during his time with the Colts and he remained in Indianapolis through 2010. He worked for the Jets, Titans and Cardinals before joining Tampa’s staff,” NBC Sports reported.
“I really like Tom Moore’s offense because there’s a completion out there somewhere,” Manning said in a video from 1998. “It’s up to me to find it.”
Moore helped Manning acquire “4,682 completions from 1998-2010 with the Colts, building a legacy not just as a future Hall of Famer, but as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play professional football. Those offenses also produced a Hall of Fame running back (Edgerrin James), a Hall of Fame wide receiver (Marvin Harrison) and another should-be Hall of Fame receiver (Marvin Harrison), as well as a tight end whose name sits in the Colts Ring of Honor (Dallas Clark),” the Indianapolis Colts reported.
Over the course of his NFL career, Moore worked with a slate of legendary quarterbacks — including Terry Bradshaw, Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Brady and Baker Mayfield — and secured four Super Bowl titles.
After an incredibly successful career, it seems like Moore is ready to dedicate time to his wife.
