ABC’s THE ROOKIE announced an uncharacteristic crossover with Dropout’s hit competition show GAME CHANGER, and fans aren’t sure what to think.

According to Variety, the crossover will air on March 2 at 10 p.m. in a Season 8 episode titled “Fun and Games” of the Nathan Fillion-led procedural.

Alongside Fillion will be his normal cast mates: Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez and Deric Augustine as Miles Penn. From GAME CHANGER, audiences will see GAME CHANGER host and Dropout CEO Sam Reich, Vic Michaelis, Jacob Wysocki, Zac Oyama and Anna Garcia.

“Harper and Miles feel the weight of their recent mistakes, while Harper is tasked with training Miles,” a synopsis of “Fun and Games” reads. “Nolan and Celina are dispatched to a robbery call at the Dropout TV Studios where Nolan encounters a familiar face.”

Fans took to the comment section of a Nerdist Instagram post to share what they felt about the surprising crossover.

“Love dropout. Heck I love Nathan Fillion, but this is just weird,” one person said.

Another person quipped, “Guys.. you are a few day to [sic] early for April the first.”

In other news, a ROOKIE spin-off, titled THE ROOKIE NORTH, began filming in Vancouver this month. Starring Jay Ellis, the show follows Alex Holland, “a man hitting his midlife who, after a home invasion, is inspired to join a small-town police force as its oldest rookie.”

“It’s a patrol show like ROOKIE, but it’s set in a very different world, which is the Pacific Northwest,” series creator Alexi Hawley told Parade. “Not just a big city cop show but more of a little bit of urban, little bit of rural, and little bit of meth labs in the woods, so it’ll be fun.”

Alongside Ellis, the pilot will star Chris Sullivan, Janet Montgomery, Mya Lowe, Malik Watson, Froy Gutierrez and Karen Fukuhara. A release date has yet to be announced, but if ABC picks up the pilot, it would likely get at 12-13 episode season, airing on ABC followed by a streaming release the next day.

“I think ultimately, what I got excited about was, I think every patrol cop show versus a procedural has really been big-city oriented, New York, Boston, Chicago, LA, so I like the idea that this place is a bigger slice of America, where people live,” Hawley said of NORTH’s different setting. “The county that they’re policing does include Tacoma, so there is some urban but at the same time, it’s also the suburbs and the exurbs, and it’s also the meth lab in the woods, and a National Park, and there’s a military base. That sort of county is really interesting.”

It looks like there’s plenty in store for ROOKIE fans. What do you think about THE ROOKIE’s crossover with GAME CHANGER?
