New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson believes the way you answer “Who is Jesus to you?” should change how you live.
“Jesus is someone who is and who always will be,” Johnson declared on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast. “And I’ll just leave it at that as a period.”
“But then I’ll go on to say that because of what He’s done — He was hung on a tree, He died for us, and the way that He did, and the thing is like the description of how He was killed, I don’t think we’d live the way that we are living now if we saw the way that He looked when He was on that tree, so unrecognizable,” the tight end continued.
“Didn’t even know if He was male or female. Ribs out, intestines out, lashed everything. And for people to mock Him and say, ‘This is the Jesus of Nazareth,’ and the cause of death is because He was Jesus of Nazareth,” he reflected. “It’s something that I have to live in a way that is obedient but also out of love and to not play around with life and to lollygag and to, you know, indulge myself in the things when that’s the reason why He died, and I’m living like this.”
“Yeah, Jesus is, and always will be, a healer, a lover, a discipliner, our partner, the person who guides us. And it’s just whoever He is in that season. So yeah, that’s who Jesus is to me,” Johnson added.

Johnson has always been outspoken about his faith. When his daughter was born last year, he read scripture over her and his wife, Chanen.
The passage he read was Proverbs 31:28-31, which reads:
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
The athlete also has used his social media platform to share about his faith. In a post last year in July, the tight end posted a photo of himself wearing a “Jesus Saves” shirt while signing autographs.
“He saved you whether you like it or not,” Johnson wrote in the caption.
Remembering and reflecting on what Jesus did on the cross should remind all of us to live for God’s glory and share the gospel with all we encounter.
