Grammy-nominated artist Nicole C. Mullen has a message for anyone seeking answers or guidance.

“I grew up in a Christian home. My parents were deacons in the church,” she explained during an episode of TAKEAWAYS WITH KIRK CAMERON.

Mullen would go on to get married to a man who abused her, often telling her she had “no purpose in life.”

“And I remember sitting there so many times thinking… ‘I do have a purpose,’ because I was remembering the God of the universe,” she said. “He was going to work everything together for my good.”

Mullen left her husband and went on to become a successful singer-songwriter.

“I’ve seen the heart of the redeemer show up in every season of my life in the form of people, but even more so in the form of Himself, in His presence,” she shared.

She also had some words of encouragement for anyone struggling with a sense of purpose or just general lack of direction.

“None of us are perfect. We don’t come to Christ because we have it all together. We come because we don’t,” Mullen said. “You are one breath, one sentence away. He says if you draw near to Him, He would draw near to you…when we [ask for His help], when our hearts are inclined toward Him, He shows up and He loves on us.”

Mullen shares more of her story in her recent book, It’s Never Wrong To Do The Right Thing.

“This book is not just about my story, but it’s about a whole lot of other women and men that are just like us — some who’ve made good decisions, some who made poor decisions, some who had tragedies, some who had joy. But it’s ultimately about how Christ worked in all of it,” she told The Christian Post.

In addition to sharing her own story, Mullen writes about figures like Abigail, Jochebed, Daniel, Ruth, Mary and Joseph, Jesus, Elizabeth Freeman, Bessie Coleman and Mary Jane Coleman.

“I haven’t always made wise or courageous decisions,” she told the Gospel Music Association. “But God is a redeemer who works all things for our good. It’s a privilege to share my own story alongside those of faithful heroes and heroes who have encouraged me through the years. I hope readers find their hearts strengthened to help them take a courageous step toward God’s best.”

Mullen’s words are a reminder to rely on God in our darkest moments, trusting Him to show us our purpose.
