Amazon MGM Studios has started the search for the next James Bond.
“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement, per the James Bond X account.

The studio has held auditions over the past several weeks to fill the role of 007, most recently played by Daniel Craig. GAME OF THRONES casting director Nina Gold leads the charge.
“We’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect,” Courtenay Valenti, Amazon MGM’s head of film, shared on stage at CinemaCon last month, per Variety. “It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. What I can tell you is this: When you pair one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class film-making team, including the brilliant director Denis Villeneuve, extraordinary producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe and screenwriter Steven Knight, you’re setting the stage for something that’s truly worthy of the Bond legacy. That film is coming, and when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”
While the casting process has just begun, several actors have already been considered for the role.
According to Comic Book Resource, “Aaron Taylor-Johnson (KRAVEN THE HUNTER, 28 YEARS LATER) was up for the part, but it’s unclear if he has formally auditioned as part of the recent process. Some of the other names to come up include Jacob Elordi (FRANKENSTEIN), Callum Turner (MASTERS OF THE AIR), and Sam Heughan (OUTLANDER).”
DUNE director Denis Villeneuve will direct the movie. Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer, while Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce.
Villeneuve said of his involvement, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”
Steven Knight is still working on the script, and while Villeneuve has been busy with DUNE 3, screen tests for the next Bond movie are underway, MI6, The Home of James Bond 007, reported.
No official release date has been announced, but fans can’t wait to see who will play the iconic spy next.
