Brittany Lutz, wife of TWILIGHT star Kellan Lutz, reminds her followers that “life does not start when you get married.”
“Can we talk about the fact that in a lot of churches, in a lot of Christian culture, marriage has become an idol?” she said in a recent Instagram video. “I am very pro-marriage. I am a huge advocate for marriage. I think it is beautiful, I think it is wonderful, but let me tell you that your life does not start when you get married. God doesn’t wait to use you until you have a spouse.”
Lutz admitted there are “things that only get unlocked in you in marriage” but added, “That’s the same for certain friendships or motherhood or whatever it may be.”
“I do think that sometimes there are a lot of people in Christian circles, or Christian influencers, and it’s like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait for you to get married and for your life to start!’ and I just want to apologize if I’ve ever made anyone feel that way, and on behalf of anyone else, if they’ve ever made you feel that way,” she continued. “Because the truth is, your life starts the moment you have breath in your lungs.”
Lutz continued, “God has a calling and a purpose for you the moment He breathed you into existence in your mother’s womb. It is not dependent on being linked to a person — a man or a woman — it’s just innate in you, because you are a child of God, born with a calling and a destiny and a purpose in this world.”
“Your life does not start when you get married,” she concluded. “Your life starts now.”
In her post’s caption, she reiterated: “Marriage is awesome. But it doesn’t complete you. Life doesn’t start when a person chooses you for life. God chose you the moment He formed you in your mother’s womb. Start living and dreaming being NOW.”

“You are worthy now. You are complete in Christ now. You are loved now. You are chosen now,” she continued.
Lutz and her husband Kellan share daughter Ashtyn, 2, and son Kasen, 1.
“I love being married,” Kellan told Fox News. “I’ve always wanted to be married, always wanted to have a family…We’re a team. We’re on the same team. We just want to get the ball into the goal together. I’m weak sometimes. She’s weak sometimes, and [together] we can be strong.”
Lutz often shares encouraging messages with her Instagram followers, particularly ones that emphasize not settling for a mediocre or easy life.
“It’s hard to give up a good life for a great life,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Life is hard. Period. But when you choose the hard that will serve you and grow you, you also choose a life full of joy and peace and so much fulfillment. When you choose a hard that doesn’t serve you…that’s all it is — hard.”
She continued, “Your life is the sum of the choices you make. Some will be hard but they’re yours and yours alone to make. I say this from experience — never ever let anyone make you believe you don’t have a choice. You always have a choice.”
Lutz’s recent video is an excellent reminder that we don’t need to wait for a specific person or event to live out God’s plan for us.
