By Movieguide® Contributor
Clean comedian Nate Bargatze is teaming up with CBS to host his first-ever primetime hour-long special.
The special will be a “holiday-themed variety show” that will air in December and be streamed on Paramount+.
“I’m extremely excited to be creating this special as I have long been a big fan of variety, and we don’t see enough of it,” Bargatze said of the new special. “I want to make a great show for families to gather around and watch together and I couldn’t be in better hands than with this team.”
He also celebrated the special on Instagram, writing, “So….this is happening. Super excited to be bringing this show from the Grand Ole Opry to your home for the holidays! Tune in December 19.”
Many fans commented on his post with their excitement to see their favorite comedian.
“You want to see my interpretive elf dance now or should I wait till December? Haha congrats man,” one user wrote.
Another said, “Proving that funny clean family comedy can not only be highly successful but is what people want and need right now. Garnering the respect of fellow comedians and reaping the well deserved rewards of hard work and sticking to your values.”
Bargatze is committed to keeping his comedy clean, thanks to his parents and Christian upbringing. Movieguide® reported:
Bargatze keeps his stand-up material clean because he still feels like he would “get in trouble” with his parents if they heard him telling a dirty joke.
“I don’t want to disappoint my parents,” Bargatze went on, saying he would also feel “mortified” and “very uncomfortable” using inappropriate material in front of them.
He continued, “I just can’t imagine cursing in front of your parents. Still, even now, I’m 43-years-old and I still just couldn’t do that. So that’s how I write. I think I write my comedy to—a lot of it is to make my parents laugh. I want them to be proud and be like, ‘Oh, come watch my son do comedy,’ and not be offended by it. I just don’t have that in me to want to offend someone or make someone feel bad.”
Per The Hollywood Reporter, “While many of the details are being kept under wraps, Bargatze intends to film the special Nov. 21 at the iconic Grand Ole Opry, where he got his start in comedy as an entry-level employee. On this night, Bargatze will serve as master of ceremonies, as he guides the in-house audience and viewers at home through a mix of stand-up, sketch, pre-taped bits and musical performances.”
“Bargatze is executive producing the special along with Lorne Michaels, Erin David, and Andrew Singer of Broadway Video. Tim Sarkes & Alex Murray of Brillstein Entertainment also executive produce,” Variety added.
