As THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER prepares for its DVD release, director Dallas Jenkins explained why it is so important the movie releases in this format.
“Even though you’re really thrilled when a movie comes out in theaters and you want people to see it on the big screen, the overwhelming majority of people are gonna see this movie at home. And of course, every Christmas, you hope to create a little bit of a classic Christmas tradition,” Jenkins told Movieguide®. “That’s how I want people to engage with THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, is that every Christmas…they’re gonna pop in the disc.
“I think there’s also something that really lovely about owning something in your home, right,” Jenkins added. “There’s still something, I think, Christmassy about the gift of a DVD or Blu-ray, right? And so, I think that for THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, part of the Christmas spirit is that some people will give it as a gift. I think on Christmas, opening it up and seeing the lovely packaging and saying, okay, I own this now. This is in my home. There’s something really, really lovely about that.”

THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER certainly captures the Christmas spirit as it emphasizes the importance of giving everyone a chance and allowing the love of others to transform your life. It is also hilarious while including heart-touching moments as well. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

It extols Jesus, who transforms your life, love thy neighbor, and the true meaning of Christmas. There are some light profanities, but they’re rebuked. Also, the main message in THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER is anyone can experience God’s love and be transformed into a better person when they follow Jesus.
It won a Movieguide®’s Best Movie for Families Teddy Bear Award® last year.
While Jenkins will forever be best known for creating THE CHOSEN, this movie is one of the most important projects he will ever work on, and he spent over a decade trying to get the movie made before he was finally able to.
“This is the movie I was born to make and I’ve been chasing it for so long,” Jenkins said last year. “[This is] a dream come true for me, and I don’t say that lightly. It sometimes is a little surreal to go, ‘I’m talking about THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, the movie I made, and it’s coming out and people are going to officially watch it.’”
THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER will release on DVD on Oct. 28.
