Deion Sanders Takes On New Role, and It Has Nothing to Do With Football
By Movieguide® Contributor
Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders just started going by a different name: Grandpa.
On Aug. 9, Coach Prime’s daughter, Deiondra Sanders, gave birth to a baby boy named Que.
The journey was not easy for Deiondra and baby Que, but it was well worth it.
“WE MADE IT YALL🥹 Through every challenge—the fibroids, the threatened miscarriages, the shortened cervix, the cerclage, the myomectomies, the wisdom of age (keep it cute lol), placenta accreta and wanting to take my entire uterus, the bed rest, and the prayers to reach 28 weeks—by the grace of God, WE MADE IT,” Deiondra wrote on Instagram.
She continued to give praise to God, believing that without Him, she wouldn’t have made it through.
“I can’t do anything but praise Him! Thank you, God. Thank you, Jesus,” she wrote. “This journey has been long, but seeing your face, my sweet baby boy, made every moment worthwhile. I am overjoyed to be your mom and cannot wait to share a lifetime of love and adventures with you. I love you so much Baby Que. I Love you so much, Que.”
Grandpa Deion commented on the post and wrote, “Proud of y’all. Keep him before God and God will keep him before us.”
With the busyness of the upcoming college football season in full swing, Coach Prime hasn’t quite been able to soak in his new role as a grandparent.
However, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Deion said, “Being a first-time grandfather is wonderful.”
“That’s the first time I’ve said that as well. Just seeing my grandson, and said some things, and he smiled and all of that, so it was wonderful because my daughter is still in the hospital right now,” he continued.
Sanders and the Colorado Buffalo kick off the 2024-25 college football season on Aug. 29 with a game against the North Dakota State Bison.
“Colorado went 4-8 last season, which was an improvement from their 1-11 record in 2023, but coach Sanders has been adamant about the urgency of winning, so four wins should be seen as the base floor,” Athlon Sports reported.
Movieguide® previously reported on Sanders:
Former NFL superstar Deion Sanders recently gave glory to God after receiving the head coaching position for the University of Colorado.
“Wow. Don’t you ever tell me what God ain’t. Don’t you ever tell me His limits,” Sanders said at a press conference. “Don’t you ever tell me what you’re up against and what you can’t do.”
The 55-year-old earned a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 and won 2 Super Bowl Championships over the course his career.
Despite his success in the league, he expressed his thankfulness to God.
“Out of all the persons in the world, God chose me,” Sanders said. “For that, I thank Him; for that, I love Him; for that, I magnify Him; for that, I glorify Him; for that, I praise Him; for that, I owe Him. Each and every day, I’m trying to please Him.”
