Dodgers Pitcher Stays Grounded in Faith Ahead of World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are headed to the World series, and pitcher Michael Kopech helped them get there.
While typically a relief pitcher, Kopech got to start Game 6 of the NLCS for the Dodgers.
“Michael Kopech’s last start was Sept. 20, 2023. He lost his starter’s job in spring training with the Chicago White Sox and has been strictly a reliever this season,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale shared on X. “His longest appearance is 2 innings this year. He starts today for the Dodgers in Game 6 against the Mets.”
Kopech leaned on his faith ahead of the star. He spoke more in-depth about his faith at the Dodgers’ “Faith and Family” celebration, “a special event dedicated to sharing how faith plays a central role in their lives,” the Dodgers Beat Dodgersbeat.com/Dodgers-news-kersh-treinen-and-kopech-share-their-faith-with-fans-prior-to-wednesdays-game/">reported.
“This is a very unfulfilling game,” the pitcher said as he discussed baseball’s ups and downs. “There’s no consistency to it, and that made me realize I needed something deeper.”
When he drifted away from God, his wife helped bring him back. He reflected on how he was like the Prodigal Son in the Bible.
“I think most of us can relate to the younger son in that story,” Kopech said.
“I think I was living a life of seeking to be sought after. To have life on this level of idolatry,” he added in an interview with CHGO. “That’s stressful to put that upon yourself because you’re not supposed to live that way. And I truly believe that now.”
“I think there’s a sense of peace within, knowing that as big as that stage may feel, it’s not even close to the biggest stage,” he continued. “At a certain point in my life, that felt like the biggest stage. It takes a whole load off of myself to realize that there’s something else in control and someone else in control. There’s a lot of rest in that.”
