YouTuber “Dude Dad” Taylor Calmus is sharing his bit of advice for parents — enjoy right now, because you won’t get to relive it.

“Heidi showed me this video from five years ago when we just had two kids, and they were 3 and 1, and they were these adorable little creatures that spoke in broken sentences and never talked back,” he shared in a recent Instagram video. “And my wife said, ‘Don’t you wish you could go back and live one more day with them like that?’ And I thought about it and my answer was, ‘Of course,’ but I also know in another five years, I’ll wish I can come back to right now.”

He also shared a quote that helps him keep his fatherly priorities straight.

“Think about yourself 20 years from now and what you wouldn’t give to go back to this moment right now and relive it,’” he said, tearing up. “It’s easy to reminisce about the past ‘cause we are now older and wiser. The hardest place to be is right now. We as parents need to figure out how to enjoy right now, because it doesn’t always last long.”

Calmus is married to Heidi Calmus and is the father of four kids.

Before his fourth baby was born in 2023, he shared about the sweet chaos of having a large family.

“Having three kids is chaos, but chaos doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing,” he said. “Chaos is our older son trying to teach his little brother how to walk…Chaos is chasing them around the house, getting them to scream at the top of their lungs, just so that they’ll fall asleep…”

“These next few years are going to be hard, but they’re also going to be worth it. As parents, we’re going to guide our kids through life. But as siblings, our kids will get to experience life together,” he shared. “Even after Heidi and I are long gone, our kids will always have each other, and that is why I think three kids is the perfect amount of kids.”

In another video, Calmus recalled going on a skiing trip with his family. He was trying to help his young daughter ski, but she gently reminded him that she could do it herself, her way. She proved it by not falling down the entire day. He was so proud, and learned that her individual success was better than any success he could have himself.

Happy early Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
