Following Jesus Means This, Mr. T Explains

By Movieguide® Contributor

Mr. T wants everyone he meets to know about God’s love.

“Keep believing in God. Keep praying,” he shared on an episode of PRAISE. “And most importantly, he taught me to forgive.”

“Because I was pitying fools before I got to be Mr. T, you know what I mean? So you know, if Jesus forgave, I have to forgive,” THE A-TEAM star explained.

He advised believers not to just be Sunday Christians, whose faith only lives one day of the week.

“Don’t just say, ‘I’m going to church on Sunday.’ We are the church and wherever we go we’re supposed to tell people — when I pray I say, ‘Lord, I pray that when they see me, let them see you. I pray that when hear me, let me hear you.’”

“Every time somebody tries to ego stroke me…I just thank God. ‘Hey, Mr. T, you looking good.’ I thank God,” he said. “I used to think I was something; I know I’m something now.”

In another PRAISE episode, Mr. T pointed out how people and schools only want God when a disaster happens.

“We took prayer out of schools,” he explained. “Football coaches fired because he’s praying with the team…but soon as there’s a shooting at the school, they got on the marquee ‘Pray for us’…How do that work? Somebody explain that to me.”

“Now we want God. We didn’t want God before…When the Buffalo Bill guy hurt, when they were telling everybody to pray, I’m looking on the field when it happened. I said, ‘Wow. All these millionares. Now reality gets them. They got mansions and all this stuff. All big contracts, but know they know, they realize…I’m one hit from death. I’m one hit from losing my job. Wow, this is serious. Okay, let’s pray. Let’s pray.”

Mr. T expressed it’s important to continue to pray even in the good times. God always wants to hear from us.

“I said, ‘Now that the young man is out of the hospital, we got to keep on praying ‘cause everybody didn’t get the good news,’” he said.

Last May, Mr. T revealed he was in a car accident. His vehicle had to be repaired, but by the grace of God, he was okay—and proved it by doing pull-ups on some playground monkey bars. “God be the glory,” Mr. T said of the incident.
