Hoda Kotb thanked fans for their support after she shared that she briefly stepped away from the TODAY show due to her daughter’s health.
“Thank you… for all of your beautiful words and prayers. I have read them all. You have no idea how much it means to me and my family. I am so profoundly touched, ❤️” Kotb said via Instagram.
The TODAY show host had left the show for a few weeks because her 3-year-old daughter, Hope, had been in the ICU due to a health issue.
While Kotb didn’t elaborate on the nature of Hope’s health issue, she did express “the amount of gratitude” she had for the doctors and nurses who helped her daughter.
Upon her return to the TODAY show, Kotb also shared her gratitude for the support she received from everyone in her life.
“I’m grateful to my family, and I’m grateful to my friends like you who were there every single day,” Kotb said to her cohost Savannah Guthrie, “so, I want to say thank you for that. I love you.”
Kotb also shared a new perspective she has gained through the hospitalization of her daughter.
“Anyone who’s ever gone through an illness with a child, I thought I understood you, but I don’t. I didn’t, until [I was] sitting in that position. For every single person who’s going through some stuff, I get it,” she said.
Movieguide® previously reported on Kotb’s return to the TODAY show:
“My youngest, Hope, was in the ICU for and then in the hospital for a little over a week,” she shared. “I’m so grateful she’s home, she is back home. I was waiting for that day to come, and we are watching her closely.”
Kotb didn’t elaborate on why Hope was hospitalized, but she did express “the amount of gratitude” she had for the doctors and nurses who helped her daughter.
“I’m grateful for the doctors at Weill Cornell who were amazing and the nurses,” she concluded. “And I’m grateful for my family and I’m grateful to friends like you [co-host Savannah Guthrie] who were there every single day. So I want to say thank you for that. I love you.”
