Homicide Detective Discovers Timeless Truths About Human Nature

By Movieguide® Contributor

LEFT BEHIND star Kirk Cameron recently spoke with homicide detective and Cold-Case Christianity author J. Warner Wallace, who revealed a compelling discovery about how God created us.

Through Warner’s studies of what motivates murder, he found that the attributes that make humans flourish today have been the same for thousands of years.

“About eight years into my career…I would see things in human nature I that’s kind of puzzling,” Wallace told Cameron on TAKEAWAYS, “but you can see they’re supported by the science, by their research of secular studies that look at these kinds of things. But it turns out if you been holding your Bible, if you were familiar with the traditional Christian worldview as described on the pages of the New Testament, these 15 attributes of human flourishing have always been there.”

“They’re ancient attributes. Why? Because they’re not rooted in culture. They’re not rooted in history. They’re rooted in our biology, created by a Creator God who has created us a certain way,” he continued.

“We’re the same people we were thousands of years ago who just have new environments, but all those attributes of human flourishing, they haven’t changed. They are biblical.”

Warner talks about this in his new book, The Truth in True Crime: What Investigating Death Teaches Us About the Meaning of Life. In it, he explains the secular studies on human flourishing and applies them in his chapters.

“Each chapter is a Crime Story,” Warner said. “Each chapter then looks at the studies that confirm whether this attribute of human flourishing has been well documented and then finally each chapter says was that an ancient biblical principle. It turns out they all are,” he said.

“The Bible provides the outline for human flourishing because it contains the wisdom of our Creator,” Wallace said.

Wallace’s book has received high praise from Pastor Greg Laurie and Frank Turek in addition to Kirk Cameron.

Movieguide® recently reported on another of Kirk Cameron’s TAKEAWAY episodes, this time with evangelist Nick Vujicic:

Nick Vujicic was born without arms or legs. But that never stops him from sharing the gospel and addressing important issues around the world.

“We shouldn’t be surprised that as we live in the dominion of the devil, as he goes around like a roaring lion seeking who he can devour, kill and destroy and steal, we understand that evil people will do evil things,” Vujicic told Kirk Cameron on TAKEAWAYS. “We know that at the same time, as bad as it’s getting, Kirk, I’m getting more excited for heaven coming around the corner. Maybe closer than we ever imagined.”

“But put that aside,” Vujicic continued. “What we do know is the Bible says very clearly to be in the world but not of the world and to shine brightly the righteousness of God. His love, his mercy to others. Forgiveness. And people see that us who have found forgiveness in our Savior Jesus Christ, when we forgive, when we say sorry, when we are humbled to know that we are nothing but servants of the most high God…we’re not more important than anybody else. No one else is more important no less important than anybody else.”
