Great American Media is officially partnering with the National Parks Foundation for this year’s broadcast of the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
“Christmas is a season grounded in faith, tradition, and togetherness,” Bill Abbott, GAM’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “We believe there’s great meaning in bringing Americans together to share hope and unity through music, light, and celebration. We are proud to partner with the National Park Foundation to broadcast the National Christmas Tree Lighting as it perfectly aligns with our mission to inspire families and celebrate the faith that connects us all.”
The tree lighting will take place December 4 at the Ellipse at The White House and President’s Park, and will air on Great American Family on December 5. The ceremony broadcast will be available to stream on Great American Pure Flix until January 31, 2026.
The Christmas tree has already been harvested from Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It is currently journeying to D.C., where it will make stops at parades and festivals in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kentucky.

“The selection of the tree brings us a step closer to the honor of sharing the first Capitol Christmas Tree from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the state of Nevada with the nation,” Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Supervisor Jon Stansfield told South Tahoe Now. “From starry skies to neon lights, we plan to use this journey to showcase the best of the Silver State, including the spectacular high-elevation forests that produced the perfect Christmas tree.”
As many of you all know, the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is coming from our very own Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, right out of the Carson Ranger District.

The state of Nevada also held an essay contest, open to fourth-grade students, where they answered the question, “What would you like the country to know about Nevada’s national forest and public lands?”
The winner, Virginia City fourth-grader Grady Armstrong, will read his essay aloud during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
“This is a unique opportunity for one of Nevada’s fourth graders to represent our great state on a national stage,” Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, who selected the winning essay, said in a statement. “Nevada is home to some of the most stunning public lands in the country, and I’m proud that one of our young students will help share that story with the nation as they light the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.”
As we approach the holiday season, people around the country are excitedly waiting to see this year’s Christmas tree lighting!
