JoAnna Garcia Swisher is thankful for the father her husband is to their daughters.
The SWEET MAGNOLIAS actress shared her appreciation for her husband, Nick Swisher, in light of the recent loss of her own dad.
“It’s really sweet. That is something that I could get really emotional about,” she told PEOPLE. “I was very, very, very close to my dad. He was the ultimate girl dad, so I know how important that role is in a young girl’s life.”
The actress lost her father in 2019, which gave her a deeper gratitude for the kind of father her husband is.
“I feel so grateful that I’m doing this with him and I feel grateful for my daughters,” she said.
The couple shares two daughters: Sailor Stevie, 8, and Emerson Jay, 11.
Swisher also emphasized the importance of working as a team in parenting and marriage.
“We prioritize each other’s dreams and just [try] to be kind to each other and give each other grace and know that it’s not always going to be perfect and easy and effortless,” she said of their nearly 14-year marriage. “Life happens, and just being each other’s teammate is really important.”
Last month, Swisher shared a sweet message to her husband on Instagram for Father’s Day.
“There are so many moments where I look at you (especially with our girls) and feel overwhelmingly grateful,” she began. “You are such a gift @yourboyswish . I have seen you do many things, but watching you as a father might be my favorite. The time you spend, the love, the adoration…all of it showing Emme and Sailor how deeply love and respected they are by someone that truly loves them unconditionally. You’re an amazing father (and husband!) and your girls are so lucky to have you. Happy Father’s Day! We love you! ❤️, us.”
The REBA alum also shared that she’d “A hundred percent” cameo in costars Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman’s upcoming sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE.
“A hundred percent, I would do the show. But more importantly, I’m just excited to go watch the show because I am really excited for all of them,” Swisher said. “It’s going to be great.”
Movieguide® previously reported:
Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman are reuniting for a new sitcom.
The pair previously starred in REBA together. Now, they are set to work alongside each other in a still-unnamed NBC pilot.
“The pilot follows Bobbie (McEntire) who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had,” Deadline reported. “Peterman will portray Gabby, a bartender who has worked at the tavern for quite some time. She is a bit needy and dramatic and would have loved to be Bobbie’s sister.”
