Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Adds Five New Floats

One of America’s most beloved Thanksgiving traditions is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

This year, the event is adding a few new floats and balloons to the lineup.

The Macy’s Studio in Moonachie, New Jersey, works on the floats all year long, employing carpenters, painters, electricians, and engineers.

“They start out as a sketch, then are printed and our sculptors use this as a guide as they sculpt the elements on the floats themselves,” executive producer Will Coss explained.

This year, five new floats will debut: “Baby Shark,” “Geoffrey’s Dazzling Dance Party,” “People of First Light,” “Supersized Slumber,” and “The Wondership.”

The parade will also add four new balloons: “Bluey,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” “DINO and Baby DINO,” and “Stuart the Minion.”

“It’s cool to help make someone’s day, millions of people’s days. It is pretty satisfying for sure,” said Eric Hudspeth, the parade studio’s art director.

All the floats have to fit through the Lincoln Tunnel as they move from New Jersey to Manhattan. They are specially designed to be folded up and reassembled.

In addition to seeing the new floats and balloons, viewers will also get to see appearances and performances from some big stars.

The performers include Big Time Rush, Gloria Estefan, Dionne Warwick, Sean Paul, and Mario Lopez.

There will also be special performances from the Broadway casts of FUNNY GIRL, SOME LIKE IT HOT, and THE LION KING.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. thanksgiving morning, ending along 34th Street in Manhattan.
