Patricia Heaton Suggests that Gary Sinise Should Be TIME’s Person of The Year

Annually in December, TIME unveils the recipient for the title “person of the year.” This longstanding tradition has been in place since 1927 and continues to generate buzz each year with potential candidates and the chosen winner. This year Christian actress Patricia Heaton (THE MIDDLE, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) has a suggestion for TIME’s pick: Gary Sinise.

As the TODAY show reminds, TIME selects the winner based on “who’s had the biggest impact on the world for better or for worse.” TIME’s person of the year award for 2018 went to The Guardians: Jamal Khashoggi, Maria Ressa, Wa Lone, and Kyaw Soe Oo. According to TIME, The Guardians are a group of journalists who go to great length to champion freedom of the press in what TIME calls “The War on Truth.”

Heaton often uses her Twitter account to voice her opinion and recently, she called attention to Christian actor Gary Sinise for all the valuable work he does to uplift and support American veterans. After his breakout role in FORREST GUMP, Sinise felt mobilized to use his influence and resources to begin The Gary Sinise Foundation. His mission is, “to serve and honor our nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need by creating and supporting unique programs that entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities.” Today, the foundation impacts countless thousands of lives.

Heaton feels Sinise’s philanthropic work shouldn’t go unnoticed. She also called out The Academy, most notable for the Oscars® award show, which often promotes liberal causes and individuals while neglecting a conservative presence.

The tweet reads, “Hey @TIME , why isn’t @GarySinise ever on the Person of the Year list? Hey @TheAcademy , why isn’t he ever picked for the #jeanhersholt humanitarian award? He raises $30M a year to build homes for wounded vets along with his #goldstarfamily support. Retweet!”

It seems that Heaton wants to bring a greater awareness to Sinise, an individual doing good work with Jesus as the bedrock for his service. It’s likely TIME magazine and The Academy won’t respond to Heaton’s suggestion.
