PROPERTY BROTHERS and Other Unscripted Series Move to HBO Max Ahead of Platform Merge

By Movieguide® Staff

Popular Discovery+ unscripted series PROPERTY BROTHERS, CHOPPED and HOLIDAY BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP are moving to HBO Max.

The show’s move comes ahead of future plans to merge the two platforms.

Deadline reported:

The combined HBO Max and Discovery+ service is coming sooner than expected.

Warner Bros. Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav revealed that the new service will launch in the U.S. in spring 2023. It was previously set to launch in summer 2023.

The company added nearly 3M global direct to consumer subscribers in its latest quarter.

“We expect a healthy inflection with the launch of our combined service and expanded global footprint. With that we are excited to announce that we have moved up our U.S. launch date from summer of 2023 to spring. We’ve been very hard at work. We can make the service available to consumers around the globe and get the business running on all cylinders,” he said on the company’s Q3 earnings call.

The move also will boost the availability of family-friendly, unscripted series.

Movieguide® previously reported:

As more and more streaming platforms enter a scene dominated by Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime, Discovery+’s success is up in the air. However, inclusion of significant family-friendly content could give the service a leg up over similarly sized streaming platforms. It should be noted that while some of this programming is wholesome, not all programs on these channels are appropriate for families or children.
