Sadie Robertson Huff: ‘Hospitality is Something We’re Called to as Believers’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Sadie Robertson Huff and Airbnb owner Joy Caissie recently discussed the importance of hospitality as Christians.
“As far as hospitality goes, I didn’t realize that so many things through the years were really leading me to this point of hospitality being my life, and even being a ministry for us,” Caissie said of her and her husband Clay’s rental properties while appearing on Huff’s “WHOA That’s Good” podcast. “We connect with so many people, we have so many meaningful conversations, and we share our story with people that come through there.”
The couple’s Airbnb listing reflects that joy in connecting with others — “we both have hearts for loving people and hospitality is our specialty!!” their profile on the site reads.
Huff and Caissie met after Huff and her husband Christian rented from the Caissies. She shared that she was struck by the couple’s hands-on approach to renting the house—and she wasn’t the only one.
Caissie shared a story about a time they rented to another couple. Part of the Airbnb listing includes an offer from the Caissies to spend time with them, whether that’s dinner or a boat ride. The couple took them up on the offer and were surprised by the level of care the Caissies put into the evening.
“We were walking down the dock and they saw everything we had done for them—which we would do for any of our guests, you know, we treat them all the same way—and they just started crying,” she explained. “Like, they were so blown away that these strangers loved them and did this for them and opened their home and schedule for them.”
Caissie continued, “That’s just our ministry. I think you can have a ministry of your life wherever you are, whether it’s the grocery store or the doctor’s office, with your friends at church or whatever. For us, we feel like connecting with these people is what we’re supposed to do. Like, it’s our purpose, right?”
“We can all be hospitable. We can all invite people to have a seat at our table,” she said. “I think creating small moments where you can love on people and just be in a space where conversations can happen with people that can be very meaningful and change people’s lives [is important].”
Huff agreed, saying, “Hospitality is something that we’re called to as believers. To welcome people in and sit at our table is really important.”
Caissie posted about the podcast episode on her Instagram page, writing, “I sat down with my sister friend, @legitsadierob and had such a great convo with her about hospitality, ETC….! I say etc. because we covered ALOT of ground!”
“She’s the sweetest + most kind human being and super gifted and she’s using those gifts in a big way! Not only is she doing great things, but she’s doing them RIGHT HERE IN OUR TWIN CITIES!” she continued. “So grateful for this opportunity and hope it helps someone, somewhere, that’s ordinary and just following the passion in his/her heart! Thank you sister and thank you to your amazing team! We are so glad The Robertson crew is from right here in our community and for all they do to make an impact both far and near!”
