SUITS Gets First Broadcast Run After 2023 Resurgence
By Movieguide® Contributor
After almost four years since the final episode of the hit legal drama SUITS, the show made a resurgence in 2023 with over 57 billion minutes streamed on Netflix.
Movieguide® reported:
According to Nielsen, “While the writers’ strike had an impact on new content this year, the popularity of SUITS was undeniable, landing in the top spot of Nielsen’s top 10 list for a record 12 straight weeks—longer than Netflix originals OZARK (11 weeks), YOU (8 weeks) and STRANGER THINGS (8 weeks). During its 12-week run at the top, audiences watched more than 36.8 billion minutes of the legal dramedy.”
Overall, SUITS totaled 57.7 billion minutes streamed, which means it finished with more minutes streamed than THE OFFICE did in 2020 (57.13 billion minutes).
Now, the show has been picked up by Fox’s MyNetwork TV and will get its first broadcast run this fall.
“The show’s slot in Fox’s Monday-through-Friday syndicated programming block, which reaches 97% of U.S. TV homes, will mark the first time it will be available on free television. A premiere date has not been announced,” Deadline reported.
“It’s become increasingly more difficult, if not impossible, to launch obscure product on broadcast TV. SUITS is arguably the most buzzworthy scripted series of the last half-decade, and MyNet looks forward to amplifying its success by introducing it to the broadcast television audience. And we’re discussing some fun ways to do just that,” said Frank Cicha, Executive Vice President of Programming for Fox Television Stations.
“With its witty dialogue, engaging plots and enjoyable characters, SUITS has proven its popularity in the streaming space, and is the right show at the right time to engage linear TV audiences across the country,” added Sean O’Boyle, exec VP and national syndication sales manager, NBCUniversal Syndication Studios. “We are thrilled to continue our successful partnership with MyNet in bringing SUITS to broadcast television.”
The SUITS universe is also launching a re-watch podcast hosted by costars Sarah Rafferty and Patrick J. Adams as they spill the show’s behind-the-scenes details.
“I’m thrilled to link arms with my intrepid ever loving brother @patrickjadams as we (re?) watch SUITS episode by episode and chat with our extended SUITS family from in front of and behind the camera, and of course, with the viewers who made it all possible,” Rafferty posted on Instagram.
Adams added, “I’ve never watched SUITS. I’ve seen a handful of episodes. But found it got me in my head and made me more insecure while we were in the throes of making it so just backed away. But this summer, watching so many people discover it again, really made me realize I would be crazy not to go back and see what came out of those years and years of laughs and tears and early mornings and long nights.”
“And I can’t fathom anyone I would rather walk through it all again with than @iamsarahgrafferty, my sister from another mister and the best scene partner you could ever hope to have,” his post concluded.
