Kel Mitchell was “honored” to be a part of this year’s Honda Battle of the Bands and pray over the bands taking part in the event.

“Honored to deliver the invocation at the @the_honda Battle of the Bands!” the Nickelodeon actor posted on Instagram. “A surreal moment praying over all the incredible HBCU bands in attendance. Also gave away scholarships for the @ncrfoundation A weekend full of Black excellence in LA!”

In the clip Mitchell posted, he addressed the stadium, saying, “I want y’all to make a lot of noise for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Invite Him in this place right now.”

The Honda Battle of the Bands saw six Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) perform at LA’s SoFi Stadium.

“Honda continues its commitment to powering the dreams and success of HBCU students by providing experiences and opportunities like Honda Battle of the Bands,” Yvette Hunsicker, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity at American Honda Motor Co., Inc, said in a statement. “Bringing Honda Battle of the Bands to California will provide a platform for these young musicians while expanding awareness of the rich legacy of HBCU schools.”

It’s no surprise Honda tapped Mitchell to speak at the event. In addition to his work as an actor, he is also a youth pastor.

“I’ve always known God,” he told Fox News. “Grew up in a church, but there’s a difference between knowing God and having a relationship with God.”

Mitchell continued, “I just got to a point in my life where I wanted to make sure that He was in everything that I do. Because when I was trying to figure out everything on my own, I got into a lot of frustration and situations. And the thing about it is that a lot of depression comes from internalizing frustration, and you need to get it out. And you need to know that you’re loved by God and you were born for a purpose. When I figured that out, I wanted others to know that as well because He was always there for me in the ups and downs of my life.”
