Clean comedian Leanne Morgan is set to live out her dream when the sitcom she leads debuts on Netflix later this year.

“I can’t believe it has come true! When I started comedy 25 years ago, my goal was to be a part of a sitcom,” Morgan said. “It just goes to show you it’s never too late, and dreams do come true. I’m a grandmama from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. What in the world!?”

The show, LEANNE, follows Morgan’s characters after her “husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. This unexpected turn sets up conflict that will sound familiar to fans of Morgan’s stand-up: Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind,” a logline for the show reads. “But with the help of her family, she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity, and Jell-O salad.”

LEANNE began filming in January, which Morgan celebrated on Instagram.

“A year ago I went to Netflix to pitch a sitcom.. and here we are FILMING IT! Thank you for believing in me, Ted!!” she wrote.

After being a comedian for decades, Morgan finally broke into a mainstream audience with her comedy special I’M EVERY WOMAN, which hit Netflix in 2023. The special was a resounding success, not only leading to her own show but also getting her signed onto Netflix for two more specials.

“We’re so thrilled to deepen our partnership with Leanne Morgan, whose singular and hilarious voice hooked viewers with her debut Netflix special last year, and to reunite with the legendary Chuck Lorre,” Tracy Pakosta, Netflix’s head of comedy said last year. “We’re looking forward to their collaboration on Netflix’s next big comedy series.”

Morgan created the show alongside Chuck Lorre, a veteran of the sitcom genre who worked on previous hits like THE BIG BANG THEORY and YOUNG SHELDON, along with Netflix originals DISJOINTED and THE KOMINSKY METHOD.

“If you’ve seen even 10 seconds of Leanne Morgan’s stand-up then you know what a unique comedic force she is,” Lorre said. “The theme of starting over is universal, and I cannot think of anyone better to combine heart and comedy than Leanne. I knew I had to work with her, and I’m so excited to bring this story to Netflix.”

A standout aspect of Morgan’s comedy is that it is not only clean but also points to the Lord, as she is a strong Christian. While it remains to be seen if the show will have a faith aspect, Morgan’s faith will shine nonetheless through the sitcom.
