Tim Allen Discovers More About God Through This Habit

Funnyman Tim Allen recently shared on X that he is doing a Bible read-through, which he says has been surprising and “amazing.”

“Never took the time in all my years to ever read and really read the Bible,” Allen posted. “Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets. Next up to New Testament. So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.”

Most commenters cheered the Tool Man on, some saying they were reading the Bible cover-to-cover as well and others shared scriptures.

Author and Professor Owen Strachan replied, “So glad you are reading the Bible, Tim. Many of us out here are thankful for you. I grew up being entertained by you, and still am.”

He added, “Jesus is the friend of sinners. He loves to forgive us. There is no limit to his grace and mercy. I pray you know the peace of Jesus, friend!”

Theologian and Youtuber Mike Winger shared that when Allen reads the New Testament, it will shed light on the Old Testament.

“Wait till you get to the book of Hebrews. Like a skeleton key for unlocking the Old Testament,” Winger wrote.

Pastor Greg Laurie posted, “That’s fantastic, Tim. The Bible is God’s very word to each of us. The message of the Bible is really how we can come into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.”

The popular evangelist encouraged Allen to read John 3:16 and to continue to seek God.

The TOY STORY star has shared about his faith journey in the past. He was raised Episcopalian but stated in a 2011 interview that after his father was killed in a car accident when Allen was just 11 years old, he had a “curious relationship with God.”

Allen admitted that while he still went to church, he was a “cynic.”

“For years, I just did not like this idea of God, church,” he told 20/20.

The 71-year-old eventually became more open to God, referring to him as ‘The Builder.”

“I always do ask…The Builder, what did you want me to do?” Allen said. “And I do ask it. But you got to be prepared for the answer.”

The LAST MAN STANDING star, who won a Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award® and Grace Award®, will return to ABC with a new sitcom SHIFTING GEARS, set to premiere in the 2024-2025 season. The show’s lineup has undergone some changes with writers and executive producers Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully leaving and new showrunners yet to be announced.

Movieguide® previously reported:

The cast for Tim Allen’s pilot SHIFTING GEARS continues to fill out as Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis join as Allen’s character’s grandchildren.

“SHIFTING GEARS centers on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley ([Kat] Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,” a description of the show reads.

Simkins’ previous projects include THE MIGHTY DUCKS: GAME CHANGERS, BIZAARDVARK and A.P. BIO for TV and HOME TEAM, THE SLEEPOVER, BOOK OF HENRY and LOVE THE COOPERS for movies.

“So happy and honored to get to work on such an incredible show with such incredible people!!! This is just the beginning… can’t wait to get to work!!:),” he posted following the casting announcement.

As for Margolis, SHIFTING GEARS serves as her debut as an actress.

The show marks Allen’s third series with ABC. He has been itching to return to the network since his previous show, LAST MAN STANDING, ended in 2021.
