Whether on the court or in the locker room, Detroit Pistons guard Tobias Harris makes it a point to “always bring Christ out” in his life.
“If I’m playing basketball in the NBA or if I’m a principal at a school, which is something I would love to do when my career is over, I’m going to find ways to always bring Christ out in my life,” Harris told Pastor William McDowell, per Relevant Magazine.
“I always try to make sure that the workspace that I’m in — the NBA, there’s highs and lows — but I always make sure that I never let the highs and lows truly determine my true happiness as a person,” he continued. “Any person I meet, I try to embrace them and show them love so that they know I’m a Christian.”

He makes sure to express his gratitude for his life.
“Every day that I wake up understanding how blessed I am, how fortunate I am,” he said. “When I do a lot of the community outreach with the youth, I can easily see the blessings that I’ve had in my life, even as a young kid growing up.”
Faith has always been at Harris’ core.
In 2019, right after he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Philadelphia 76ers, he wrote on X, “God does not give us overcoming life. He gives us life as we overcome.”
In 2015, Harris spoke more about his faith and the mission he is on in his daily life.
“Any person I meet, I try to embrace them and show them love so that they know I’m a Christian,” Harris said in an interview with Razz and Jazz Sports. “Jesus Christ was a loving man and as Christians, we have to try to enable our lives after Jesus Christ.”
According to Relevant Magazine, Harris is currently “averaging 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds while bringing playoff experience to a team that hadn’t won a postseason game since 2008.”
“In the NBA, you go through a lot of ups and downs,” he told Darrell Johnson in 2014. “You’ve just got to continue to trust God’s plan.”
It’s incredible to see an athlete like Harris use his platform to point people to Christ.
The Pistons lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday night, 103-112. They’ll face off against the Cavaliers again tonight at 8 p.m. ET in the Eastern Conference semifinal.
