Tyler Perry to Reopen Atlanta-Based Studio in July

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

Tyler Perry set a target opening date for his Atlanta-based studio to reopen and begin production.

Perry’s plan is to begin production on two of his BET shows starting July 8, with the shows being filmed consecutively.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Tyler Perry,” BET president Scott Mills said Tuesday in a statement.

Mills added, “BET is committed to investing in quality programming from top industry power players and giving viewers more of the content they love and expect from the brand across our platforms.”

The two shows will film their 22-episode seasons in two weeks, even filming an entire episode in one day or less.

Perry writes, directs and executive produces both shows.

If Perry is able to start production when he wants to, his studio will be the first in the U.S. to resume work after closing due to the coronavirus.

Movieguide® previously reported Perry’s outline on how he plans to reopen his studio.

First, all cast and crew members will be sequestered at the studio, which used to be a military base.

Second, Perry will provide private air travel for his cast to get to the Atlanta studio safely.

Finally, everyone on set will be tested for the coronavirus upon arriving to the studio and multiple times while filming to ensure the virus isn’t being spread.
