What You Need to Know About THE WAY HOME Season 3

THE WAY HOME Season 3, premiering Jan. 2, is jumping from Hallmark channel to Hallmark+ and adding some new cast members.

“Season 3 debuts where Season 2 left off, with Kat (Chyler Leigh) and her brother Jacob (Spencer Macpherson) set to walk home into the Landry home to an unsuspecting Del (Andie MacDowell),” Variety reported Nov. 25. “There will also be a new era this season as Kat and Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) will transport to 1974, the year Del and Colton (Jefferson Brown) first met as teens. Meanwhile, Alice will meet a young girl, Evelyn Goodwin, but their friendship could complicate the present.”

The season will be released on Hallmark Channel next fall.

Julia Tomasone and Jordan Doww will join the set, cast as the teen versions of Del and Colton. Devin Cecchetto will star as Evelyn.

“In present day, Elliot (Evan Williams) and Kat navigate their new relationship while also trying to face their complicated pasts — including Kat’s connection to the 1800s. (At the end of Season 2, Kat shared a kiss with both Elliot in the present day and Thomas (Kris Holden-Reid), the man who shot her at the beginning of the season, in 1814.”

Kate Redinger, senior director of programming at Hallmark Media, said, “Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke and Marly Reed’s incredible storytelling continues to amaze us. Each season brilliantly builds on the one before and this season promises to be the best one yet. With the intriguing new characters they’ve created and riveting storylines, viewers are in for another enthralling season.”

Co-showrunner Heather Conkie admitted that things get pretty mixed up with Kat’s two love interests living in separate times.

“We know that Kat can’t leave her daughter and stay in the past, because that would be the ultimate sacrifice. At the same time, it’s wonderful to keep Elliot’s love story with Kat and the Thomas slow burn,” she said. “They really didn’t like each other at all and we watched it go step by step by step until they were actually kissing for the first time in episode 10.”

Showbiz Cheatsheet reported, “While the news that THE WAY HOME will soon be back with more episodes is reason for fans to cheer, not everyone is thrilled with the show’s move to Hallmark+. On an Instagram post announcing the change, a number of people expressed frustration that they’d either have to sign up for another streaming service or wait months until the new episodes show up on Hallmark Channel (and risk seeing spoilers in the meantime). “

“Wow!!! I love that series but not willing to pay for another streaming subscription,” one user commented.

Another said, “Ugh! I was so excited for this to come back on. I couldn’t be more disappointed right now.”

In June, showrunners Conkie and Clark teased that there might eventually be a THE WAY HOME movie.

“We would love to do a movie…and a spinoff,” Conkie said.

Clarke added, “It’s such a unique show in that way, because you do have cast in every single era, and what the heck are they doing when these people aren’t around? That in and of itself is something I’d want to see. I want to see 1999, teen Kat, Elliot, Nick, just their life without this situation.”
