Why This Country Superstar Stood Up for America

Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley says performing at this year’s RNC “was one of the best moments” of his career.

“I got a call and asked if I was interested, and I said, ‘Absolutely, I’m available,’” he told Fox News.

Kelley performed the 2022 song “American Spirit” with members of the Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God In Christ Choir.

“I just felt like it was a great opportunity to go support my country,” Kelley said. “I think it was one of the best moments I’ve ever had in my career. The atmosphere was electric. You could feel the love. You could feel the support, and it felt like a family.”

Kelley also spoke about his new single, “Make America Great Again.”

“I just felt it in my heart, felt it in my gut, that, you know, I’m gonna take a stand, and I’m gonna put this song out,” Kelley said. “I’m really proud of it. At the end of the day, I’m a concerned real American.”

He continued, “Maybe, at the end of the day, maybe this song can win some undecided people over. Maybe those that don’t even agree with what I’m saying can understand that I have a backbone and that I’m standing on ground in which I believe and there’s nothing more authentic than that. I’m a proud American, and I think we can Make America Great Again.”

In an Instagram post about “Make America Great Again,” Kelley wrote, “I wrote this song by myself on 7/7/24 just about a week before the failed assassination attempt on @realdonaldtrump and after processing that event and being fed up with the current state of America I decided I need to get this out ASAP.”

“I wrote it from the heart because I am a concerned, real American,” he continued. “I do not pander, and I will never waver. I’m proud to honor my voice, and give a voice and anthem to those who feel the exact same way. Stand up with me.”

Kelley released his sophomore album, Tennessee Truth, earlier this year.

“No. 1, kind of the first Tennessee truth is, you know, this is this record’s a tribute to my deep Tennessee roots in my family,” he told Fox News.

Kelley continued, “I’m just so grateful that music is still leading my life. I’m still the guy hunting down songs, still may leave a conversation to go write down a lyric if it pops in my head, you know what I’m saying?”

“At the end of the day, my Tennessee truth is that, you know, I’m no different than those that are going to be jamming this record,” he concluded. “Like I mentioned, you know, we’re in the same headspace on what our values are and how we navigate our life through fishing, hunting, the love of our lives, of family time, you know, God. We love this country. And we’re hard workers.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Kelley and Florida Georgia Line bandmate Tyler Hubbard’s split:

Brian Kelley opened up about what life has been like since the duo Florida Georgia Line took an indefinite hiatus in 2022. For him, it’s all about family.

“My wife Brittney, our family time together with our extended family means the world to me,” he said, adding, that he finds inspiration for lyrics “from my lifestyle of being in the woods or in the water. That’s where typically you can find me unless we’re on the road somewhere.”

The country crooner said his music is always about “just loving and living life to its fullest, you know what I’m saying? And working hard, having something to look forward to.”
