Will the MCU’s Multiverse Saga Ever End?

By Movieguide® Contributor

An end to the Marvel’s multiverse saga is in sight, but don’t fret, superhero fans. It’s not for several years.

The name of the final movie has been revealed. AVENGERS: SECRET WARS is set to release in 2027.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum said of the film “I think that’s [what] SECRET WARS is going to be an amazing culmination to the saga. I think it’s going to make the journey feel like it was worthwhile.”

Collider said, “The original Secret Wars story features the merging of many other characters into a single planet called Battleworld, with heroes and villains alike being forced to face off in a massive battle. The merging of the universes could be the perfect way to end the multiverse saga and return the MCU to a single timeline.”

Marvel recently announced that it is making changes to differentiate its series from its movies. The studio is also attempting to make films more viewer-friendly so people are not lost if they haven’t seen all of the movies/shows.

“The characters still live and breathe in the same universe, but the interconnectivity is not so rigid that you need to watch Project A to understand Project B,” he said earlier this year. “The hope is that, like the comics, you can just pop in anywhere and have a satisfying experience. We’re trying to dispel the idea that you need to do any kind of setup work to watch anything else.”

The multiverse saga has a long way to go, though, before SECRET WARS.

AGATHA ALL ALONG releases this month. In 2025, fans can expect to see CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, IRONHEART, DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN, THUNDERBOLTS, THE FANTASTIC FOUR and BLADE.

AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY is slated for an April 2026 release, while SECRET WARS will release in May 2027.

Beloved AVENGERS star Robert Downey Jr. is also slated to make his Marvel return but now as a villain. Movieguide® reported:

Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU universe, but it won’t be as Iron Man.

“Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the film franchise as classic Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom for the newly titled AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, due out in May 2026, and AVENGERS: SECRET WARS, bowing in May 2027. Kevin Feige also officially confirmed the Russo bros. will direct these next two AVENGERS films,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

The announcement was made on Saturday at Comic Con.

“If we’re going to bring Victor Von Doom to the screen — he is one of the more complex characters in all of comics…this is potentially one of the more entertaining characters in all of fiction,” said Joe Russo. “If we’re going to do this…then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.”
