More Detail:
CHUPA is an animated fantasy about the friendship between a miniature Chupacabra, the legendary Latin American creature, and a young Mexican boy from Kansas, Alejandro. Alex meets the little fellow while on summer vacation in San Javier, Mexico with his grandfather, Chava, and his two cousins. The Chupacabra is supposed to be a fearsome vampire creature, but Alex is surprised at how lovable this cat with bat wings, fangs and a lemur tail can be. Showing it to his cousins, they christen it “Chupa” and begin to fall in love with their new friend.
Chava, upon finding that the children have discovered “Chupa,” reveals that he found the creature a while ago and has been feeding it for some time in hopes of reuniting it with its family. However, a scientist doing research in the area, who seeks the creature for his own selfish reasons, tries to capture Chupa. Determined to keep Chupa safe from harm and hoping to find his family if he has one, Chava and the children embark on a quest to find Chupa’s family. The journey brings Chava back to his Lucha Libre wrestling days, and Alejandron closer to his family than he has ever been.
