JASON X

What You Need To Know:

JASON X revives the Friday the 13th character yet again, this time in the future onboard a starship. Beginning in the year 2010, Jason Voorhees (played by Kane Hodder) is being prepared for cryogenic stasis under the supervision of Rowan (played by Lexa Doig). After a struggle between Jason and Rowan, they become frozen in a stasis chamber. They are rediscovered in the year 2455 by scientists, revived, and a new reign of terror begins in the Jason saga, complete with graphic language, gratuitous sex, and generous amounts of gore.

The movie reeks of the humanistic agenda, and the character of Jason personifies a supernatural, demonic force. There is no acknowledgement of ANY kind of a supernatural realm…God only enters their vocabulary in the form of an expletive. Parents should be extremely aware that this movie is marketed toward their young teenage kids, even though the content would not even be suitable for adult viewers. A pervading sense of hopelessness emanates from the screen, leaving no real solution for dealing with Evil. JASON X is sadly predictable and offers nothing new under the sun to the horror genre, but succeeds in promoting helplessness and humanism

Content:

(HHH, LLL, VVV, SS, NN, A, D, MM) Strong humanistic worldview with no mention of any spiritual realm, good or evil, with a few hedonistic elements; at least 39 obscenities and five profanities, including a few “f” words and using the Lord’s name in vain; space station explodes, plenty of graphic, gratuitous violence that includes numerous impalings, neck breaking, limb amputations, gun fights, smashed heads, stabbing, man hacked in two, decapitation, dismemberment, and bloody corpses and body parts, displayed in varying amounts of gore; sexual innuendo, implied cunnilingus, depicted fornication of two young students (college-age, possibly younger), sadomasochistic relationship between teacher and student to insure a better grade, attraction of scientist to female android, implying salacious activities; brief upper male nudity, revealing tops for the women, woman in underwear, and upper female nudity; alcohol; drug use proposed to killer by virtual reality co-eds (very brief); and, female android gets “upgraded” to a dominatrix-style warrior, teacher lies and exhibits greedy and self centered thinking, and female student goes crazy;

More Detail:

JASON X revives the Friday the 13th character yet again, this time in the future onboard a starship. Beginning in the year 2010, Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) is being prepared for cryogenic stasis under the supervision of Rowan (Lexa Doig). Although freezing him seems to be the only apparent solution to stop his ravenous, murderous rage, the military intervenes anyway, wanting to transfer him to a research facility to further study his regenerative ability. Upon entering the room where he is kept, they walk into a trap and all the guards meet their demise. The chase ensues and ends with Rowan and Jason frozen in cryogenic stasis. They are rediscovered in the year 2455 by scientists, and Rowan and Jason are revived, hence beginning the new chapter of “chills and thrills” in the Jason saga.

Within the first 10 minutes of the movie (including the opening credits), six people die, setting the precedent for the killing pace throughout the movie. The people who discover Jason begin to study him, oblivious to the threat that lays on their bio-bed. As the threat becomes real, the people (who soon become victims) draw only from their own abilities and resources, making a strong humanistic worldview pervade throughout the movie. The existence of God does not come up at all unless they decide to use his name in vain as an exclamatory phrase.

Everything the characters do to stop Jason is useless; the evil keeps on coming. Their futile efforts become very effective in creating an atmosphere of hopelessness against the forces of darkness (embodied in Jason), leaving the viewer with a sense of helplessness in the face of a present (almost supernatural) danger.

The character of Jason personifies a supernatural, demonic force to inflict pain and death to anyone who gets in its way. Only huge catastrophic events (always initiated by human effort) even begin to slow down its rampage.

The Bible makes it very clear that while we are not capable of overcoming evil solely by ourselves, Jesus has already been victorious over Darkness, and that victory is available to all who accept Him. In Jude 1:19, the example of dealing with evil is given, “Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” This also demonstrates the power in the name of Jesus, which only appeared in this movie as a profane exclamation.

Parents should be extremely aware that this movie is marketed toward their teenage kids, even though the content of the movie would not even be suitable for adult viewers. The solution to the violence of evil is the violence of good in retaliation to it, not through means of big guns and lots of bloodshed. All sexual activities happen outside the marriage relationship and promote violent forms of sexuality such as sadomasochism. JASON X is sadly predictable and fails to breathe new life into a horror genre “classic.”
