STARDUST

What You Need To Know:

STARDUST is a disappointing fantasy. Young Tristran promises the girl of his dreams that he will bring back a fallen star that has landed in the magical kingdom of Stormhold. When Tristan gets to where the star fell, he discovers another beautiful woman, Yvaine, the form that the star takes in Stormhold. An evil witch, Lamia, covets the blood of Yvaine, however, because it will give her long life and beauty. With the witch hot on their trail, Tristan and Yvaine find refuge on a pirate ship led by the fiercesome Captain Shakespeare, who has a secret in his closet.

STARDUST is predictable, and most of the main characters are uninspired. Although the movie makes it clear that witchcraft is evil, sexual immorality is not. Both Tristan and his father commit fornication, and the fiercesome pirate captain turns out to be a cross-dressing homosexual. There goes the family audience! Thus, despite some intriguing trailers, STARDUST is bound to have a lot of empty seats when it opens. Were it not for its more traditional moral depiction of the evils of witchcraft, this politically correct fantasy might deserve an abhorrent rating.

Content:

(PaPa, B, PCPC, HoHo, O, L, VV, S, N, A, M) Strong pagan worldview with a traditional moral depiction of the evils of witchcraft where occultism is rebuked but a politically correct depiction of a cross-dressing homosexual, who turns out to be one of the good guys, plus viewers can see ghosts of six princes who die but it does not seem that the other characters can see the ghosts (the ghosts are mostly there for comic effect as the ghosts react to events in the story); five obscenities and five light profanities; action violence with only a little blood such as sword fighting, father pushes son out of tower and son returns as a ghost with a smashed face, witch casts spells against people (including voodoo spells where she puts voodoo doll into water to drown one character), witches try to sacrifice woman to take woman’s magical powers, wolves kill witch off screen, character stabbed to death by spear, man drowned, man’s body brought to life to duel with man still alive, etc.; implied fornication and man wears women’s clothing with jokes about him being homosexual but no reference to other homosexual activities; upper male nudity as man sits in tub and later becomes a ghost with no clothes; alcohol use; no smoking; and, lying and fantasy elements about a magical kingdom in story about a star falling to Earth that becomes a person in the magical kingdom.

More Detail:

STARDUST is a disappointing fantasy. The villain is an evil witch, which is a great antidote to the Harry Potter craze this season. The filmmakers ruin this positive aspect, however, by making one of the good guys be a homosexual who wears women’s clothing. Pre-marital heterosexual sex also plays a role in the movie’s story.

The movie opens 150 years ago in England. A man in the village of Wall enters Stormhold, a magical kingdom outside the village, where he has a dalliance with a princess held prisoner by a traveling witch. Nine months letter, a messenger delivers a baby boy, Tristan, to the man.

When Tristan grows up to be a young man himself, he has a crush on the beautiful, but fickle, Victoria, who’s also being wooed by Humphrey. Tristan and Victoria see a star falling outside the village. Tristan promises to bring back the star. If he does, Victoria says she will marry him instead of Humphrey.

Tristan goes into Stormhold to retrieve the star. When he gets to where the star fell, he discovers another beautiful woman, Yvaine, the form that the star takes in Stormhold, the magical kingdom.

An evil witch, Lamia, however, covets the blood of Yvaine, because it will give her long life and beauty. With the witch hot on their trail, Tristan and Yvaine find refuge on a pirate ship led by the fiercesome Captain Shakespeare, who has a secret in his closet.
