All is well for Paddington in London until he receives a letter from the Reverend Mother at Aunt Lucy’s Home for Retired Bears in Peru. The Reverend Mother informs Paddington that Aunt Lucy is very depressed and downtrodden because she misses Paddington and would love a visit.

Paddington shares the sad news with his London “Brown” family. Mrs. Mary Brown misses the times when her younger family was closer. So, she decides the whole family should go with Paddington to Peru to check on Aunt Lucy. Her husband, Henry, is reluctant, being the careful man that he is. However, he’s recently been encouraged by his new boss that he must take new risks if he wants to succeed in the insurance business. The family brings along their college bound teenager who has no time for her family, and their son is always inventing things so he never has to leave his room.

Once they arrive in Peru, they discover that Aunt Lucy has gone missing. The Reverend Mother convinces the Brown Family and Paddington that they must go find Aunt Lucy in the Amazon rain forest of Peru. Conveniently, Lucy has left some clues and a map in her room. The map leads them to Rumi Rock, where some Incan ruins lie.

Paddington hires boat Captain Hunter Cabot to lead them on a river tour to the place marked on Aunt Lucy’s map. The Captain informs the family that the place they are going to is at the center of a legend of the lost gold of El Dorado. What the captain does not disclose to the family is that he’s haunted by greedy ancestral family ghosts who all died looking for this treasure.

Paddington and his family traverse the traps of treasure hunters and greedy ghosts, as well as the natural dangers of the Amazon. Nevertheless, Paddington’s love gives him the courage to face any danger that comes his way. The love Paddington has in his heart for his family leads him to find himself. Paddington discovers missing pieces from his past in Peru. Paddington also reconnects with the place where he started life but will this determine where he belongs?

PADDINGTON IN PERU takes moviegoers on a wonderful comical adventure through the Amazon rain forest of Peru. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, as well as a few heartfelt tears shed for the heart of a bear who loves his family. The genuine love and sacrifice Paddington and the Brown’s show toward each other is a good example of God’s biblical plan for a family.

The movie is perfectly cast with some great character types and strong acting all around. It has a strong moral worldview teaching that family is the real treasure, more precious than gold. However, PADDINGTON IN PERU has many perilous situations and greedy ghosts that may be imaginary. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises some caution for younger children.
