May Day! May Day! May Day!

Dr. Ted Baehr is joining with Janet Folger Porter to make a “May Day!” distress call for our nation.

On May 1st, Dr. Baehr will join Dr. James Dobson, Tim Wildmon, Bob Coy, and other Christian leaders in front of the Lincoln Memorial to do something very simple yet profound: to pray.

“There are many good prayer meetings around the country with great speakers and much inspiration. What will make ‘May Day 2010′ different is that the complete agenda is to pray for our nation, our society, and our children,” says Dr. Baehr.

“May Day!” has been the international distress call for generations and it is a fitting name for the event on May 1st.

Baehr says, “Just like a plane veering out of control and the pilot calling ‘May Day’ for help, we need to call out to Almighty God in this time of our national distress.”

It is fitting that the gathering will be in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Lincoln himself wrote:

“And whereas, it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history:  that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”

Abraham Lincoln, March 30, 1863

Proclamation appointing a National Day of Prayer and Fasting

The event will last from sunrise until the afternoon with nearly constant prayer led by the different leaders.

Dr. Baehr joins others asking that every believer consider being a part in some fashion. Those who can, should consider joining in Washington D.C. Others can mobilize others at their own church or small group to pray and fast for our nation. Many resources are available at www.MayDay2010.org.

Baehr says, “2 Chronicles 7:14 says, ‘If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’ That’s the cry of my heart and I know it is the cry of many across our land.”
