THE OVERNIGHT

"Silly, Stupid, Annoying, and Abhorrent"

What You Need To Know:

THE OVERNIGHT is a comedy about a young married couple having a friendly dinner with another married couple they just met. Alex, Emily and their son, RJ, are new to Los Angeles. They have a pizza dinner at the home of their new friends, Kirk, Charlotte and their son, Max. At the pizza dinner, the families seem to hit it off. So, when the two boys get tired, Alex and Emily decide to stay while the boys take a long nap. The couples begin to open up to each other, and things get more bizarre and more revealing. The alcohol starts flowing. And, Kurt brings out some marijuana.

As THE OVERNIGHT rolls along, it just gets more stupid, more silly and more abhorrent. At the end, the two married couples are stoned and begin a homosexual orgy that’s interrupted when their two children wake up demanding breakfast. A brief final scene implies that the sexual exploration and “frank discussion” during the wild dinner party has helped both marriages. THE OVERNIGHT is a vile and stupid movie with a vile and stupid message.

More Detail:

THE OVERNIGHT is a comedy about a young married couple attending a friendly dinner with another married couple they just met, but the evening eventually turns into a wild, drunken, marijuana-infused, would-be orgy after the couples put their two children to sleep. THE OVERNIGHT starts off badly, but the second half is just abhorrent and, ultimately, silly, stupid and annoying.

The movie opens with Alex and Emily enjoying their “marriage bed” in their new apartment in Los Angeles. Alex, Emily and their young son, RJ, just moved there from Seattle and don’t have any new friends yet. When they go to the park with RJ, however, their son makes friends with another young boy, Max. Max’s overly friendly father, Kurt, invites them to have a pizza dinner with Kurt and his French wife, Charlotte, at their home. Alex and Emily say, sure, why not?

At the pizza dinner, the families seem to hit it off. So, when the two boys get tired, Alex and Emily decide to stay while the boys have a long nap. Once the boys are asleep, the couples begin to open up to each other, and things get more bizarre and more revealing.
