“Game On,” the first episode of the new MIGHTY DUCKS television series on Disney+ called GAME CHANGERS, follows a tween boy who assembles an unlikely new hockey team when he and another boy get cut from the super successful junior Mighty Ducks team. “Game On” will delight fans of the 1990s MIGHTY DUCKS movies with its spot-on comical timing, clear jeopardy and strong moral worldview stressing maturity, caring for the underdog and making new friends.
“Game On” begins on the ice rink as the junior Mighty Ducks hockey team wraps up their first practice for the season. A boy named Evan gets cut from the team by the coach, and Evan’s mother, Alex, is visibly disappointed. She’s not disappointed Evan got cut, just that the parents and the coach took away the fun of the game.
Alex has a bright idea while they talk to another Mighty Ducks onlooker who’s the same age as Evan. Why not make a new team? Evan reluctantly agrees, but the hunt is on for more players. Oh, there’s just one more thing, they only have three days to gather their team to become “official” in the league!
Evan and Alex do everything in their power to recruit players with the looming deadline in sight. They find a bit of promise with a new kid from Toronto, Canada and some other misfits at school who look for a place to belong, but this doesn’t ensure they’ll be any good.
Meanwhile, Alex finds a rundown ice rink that could be the home of practices to come. She convinces a former MIGHTY DUCKS alum and coach, Gordon Bombay, the ice rink owner, to house the team going forward.
