PornHub Parent Company Changes Name But Can’t Erase Exploitative History

By Movieguide® Contributor

PornHub parent company MindGeek has changed its name to Aylo in an attempt to distance itself from exploitation allegations. However, the company still profits from the sexual exploitation of women, children and men.

“Pornhub’s parent company is desperately trying to rehabilitate its image from the litany of sexual abuses it has fostered and the lives it has damaged,” said Haley McNamara, Vice President of Strategy and Communications at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE).

“MindGeek/Aylo, or whatever the pornography purveyors want to call it this week, is still the same company that systematically hosted and profited from child sexual abuse, sex trafficking, rape, image-based sexual abuse, racist, and nonconsensual material,” she added in a press release.

“Pornhub even profits from synthetic sexually explicit material (deepfake pornography), which NCOSE recently revealed,” McNamara added.

Pornhub – and MindGeek – have been under fire for years now as thousands of survivors of sexual abuse have come forward, explaining how their abuse has been shared on Pornhub without their consent.

In response to a scathing New York Times exposé, the site removed over 10 million videos in 2020 that came from the exploitation and abuse of underage children. However, little has changed in their policies to ensure these videos do not reappear on the site.

“While MindGeek/Aylo attempts to sanitize its image, it has made no changes to enact meaningful age and consent verification of every individual depicted in videos on their sites,” McNamara continued. “If and until it makes these crucial changes, it is guaranteed that a portion of their content will be child sexual abuse material, sex trafficking, rape, and other image-based sexual abuse.”

“MindGeek/Aylo cannot distance its exploitative business model from the growing number of survivors – both children and adults – who have been violentsly raped, sexually abuses, sex trafficked and had their images posted on Pornhub without their knowledge or consent. [NCOSE] will continue to fight for survivors of ‘Aylo’s Abuses,’” she concluded.

NCOSE’s press release also reveals that multiple lawsuits have been filed against MindGeek/Aylo in the U.S. and Canada.

“The National Center on Sexual Exploitation Law Center filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of a child sex trafficking survivor against Pornhub. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation is also co-counsel in a lawsuit against Pornhub and XHamster filed on behalf of 9 women who were secretly filmed while changing in a college locker room for a field hockey game, and the footage of which was then uploaded to Pornhub and XHamster,” the release concluded.

Movieguide® previously reported on NCOSE’s work to fight exploitation and the pornography industry:

To help parents raise “pornography resistant” children, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation came out with tips to help parents help protect their children.

Pornography is pervasive, not only on adult site but in mainstream media. With over half of American teens being exposed to pornographic content before they turn 13, it is no longer a question of if they will be exposed, but when…

While rules and filters need to be put in place to protect our kids, it is also important to talk with them about this issue so they know what to do when things slip through the cracks. The question of how to raise kids that say no to porn usage is a daunting one, but the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCSE) has suggestions on how to address this problem.

The most important thing, according to the NCSE, is to have a strong relationship with your kids.

“If you have a good relationship, your child will be more inclined to listen to your words and follow you example when dealing with pornography,” they suggest.
