Greg Laurie’s Maui Church Brings Relief, Hope to Wildfire-Devastated Community

Pastor Greg Laurie and his church located in Maui are sharing the gospel and bringing relief to those who have suffered from the wildfires that broke out on the island earlier this month.

“The church is here for such a time as this. And I think there’s hope for the people here, but the hope is in God and you know, hope actually grows in the garden of adversity and I believe that our church reaching out and other believers living as they should as Christians, we will be able to bring help and hope to the people of Maui,” Laurie said, per CBN.

Laurie pastors Harvest Kumulani Chapel located on Maui, and many of its congregants have suffered.

“We praise God for the initiative that our Maui church ohana has taken, and because of this, Harvest is in a unique position to make a difference during this crisis,” Harvest’s website reads. “We have set up the Harvest Maui Relief Fund to provide support for our church’s local relief efforts, and so many of you have generously responded with your financial support.”

“Over the past couple of weeks, our team on the ground has been able to meet the immediate needs of people on the island of Maui with food, water, clothing, housing, and other tangible displays of love,” Laurie added.

“We have also had pastors working around the clock ministering to people, praying with them, and helping people with everything from finding housing to answering life’s toughest questions,” he continued.

“And for those that don’t know Jesus, the hope of the gospel. And for those who believe, let them know that they are loved and that we care for them and are there to help them,” Laurie concluded. “We want to point people to Jesus.”

On Sunday, Greg Laurie shared an update on the situation in Lahaina on his Instagram.

“Aloha from Maui!” He captioned in the post. “This photo was taken yesterday as I walked down the main street of old Lahaina town called Frontstreet. These fires have traumatised the residents here as so many have lost family members as well as thier homes and livelihood…Pray that our service today will bring a measure of hope and healing to the people that have made this island their home.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Laurie’s Maui-based church:

Laurie pastors Kumulani Chapel, and since he and his wife, Cathe Laurie, began serving at the church seven years ago, over 2,000 people have given their life to Jesus.

“And we did pray about this! It wasn’t as easy as you would think, and everyone thinks, ‘Oh, Hawaii, of course, you would say yes.’ But you know, this was a pre-existing congregation, and now they’re going to have a video feed, and that’s what we give them, we give them a live video feed of what’s happening in California, and it has worked beautifully,” Laurie told CBN News.

“The church has doubled in size, and since we took it over, we’ve seen some 2,000 people make a profession of faith to follow Christ,” he added.
