Drew and Jonathan Scott’s newest show, CHASING THE WEST, sees them pairing city natives with farm life, and it’s full of sweet memories for the brothers who grew up on a ranch.

“It was sort of bittersweet because we could share what we loved about growing up on a ranch with all of these families,” Jonathan told PEOPLE about the new series. “On the flip side, I miss it. It was so fun to be in the mountains.”

“This show is so much fun,” Drew said during an interview with GOOD DAY SACRAMENTO. “It brought us back to our roots…this was so nostalgic for us to get back in the saddle and help these families figure out what life outside the city would be like, realistically.”

The Scott brothers grew up on a 160-acre ranch in the Canadian Rockies. Though most people who have not lived on a farm think the ranch life is easygoing, the brothers both know the truth — a lot of work goes into maintaining the acres. This knowledge was important for their show, as they were able to help the city dwellers moving out to the country purchase land that would not overwhelm them.

“We learned a lot over the years from being on a ranch and the hard work that it takes,” Drew said. “But all these homeowners that we’re dealing with, they were oblivious. They thought it would just be a dream to leave the hectic, busy pace of the city and have a relaxing life on a ranch. No, it’s hard work. So we really were that wake-up call.”

CHASING THE WEST is one of two new shows from Drew and Jonathan that shines a light on the reality of working in the housing industry. While CHASING THE WEST focuses on the unique problems of country living, their other show, DON’T HATE YOUR HOUSE, reveals the discouraging moments of house flipping that can cause many people to give up on the project.

“Anyone who’s gone through a renovation these days [has] got the same story,” Drew told TODAY last year. “There’s something that comes up that was unexpected. The process is terrible, in fact. So that’s why we created the show. So many people said, your shows are usually, like, optimistic and happy, everything’s gonna be fine. Like, that’s not real life.”

CHASING THE WEST premiered on July 30. DON’T HATE YOUR HOUSE will release later this year.
