Former BACHELOR star Madison Prewett Troutt explained how following “your heart” doesn’t lead to true happiness.
“We live in a world that tells us to ‘follow your heart,’ ‘chase what feels good’ and ‘do whatever makes you happy.’ But here’s the thing. When we live for ourselves, we don’t actually end up free,” Troutt explained in an Instagram post highlighting her book, Dare to Be True.
“We end up tired, striving and still searching for something more,” she said. “Because the truth is…living for self enslaves you. The more you try to fill your heart with your own desires, the more it starts to feel empty.”
She knows Jesus offers true contentment and freedom by knowing Him.
“He doesn’t say, ‘Follow yourself.’ He says, ‘Follow Me,’” she said. “Real freedom isn’t found in doing whatever we want.”

“It’s found in surrendering everything to the One who made us. The One who knows what our hearts truly need,” she emphasized.
Prewett Troutt talks in depth about this in her book, which she released in September.
“I wrote this book because I know what it’s like to feel stuck: bound by lies, burdened by past mistakes and shame, stuck in sin, and confused by the noise of the world around me,” she said.
She chased what she thought was happiness but wasn’t fulfilled until she found true freedom through Christ.
“In my search for answers, I discovered a life-changing reality: we all desire freedom, yet many of us live lies. In Dare to Be True, we’ll not only explore how to break free from the lies that bind us, but also how to stay free by anchoring our lives in the Truth that never changes,” she said.
“I wrote this book for the one who is tired of the pretending and striving, who feels isolated and hopeless, and who is bombarded with lies that leaves you to question: What’s really true? about me? About God? About life after this life?”
Her book promises to help readers recognize worldly lies, ignore cultural “noise” and help them “stop spiraling in sin, shame, and isolation, and receive grace” and “step into your purpose with clarity and without apology.”
Prewett Troutt will share about truth again this Saturday in Nashville at her first Stay True Live event.
“The countdown is on, and we cannot wait to see you there,” she said of the event. “A night filled with worship, truth, and community! This is more than just an event, it’s a move of God.”
The event also features hosts Riley Kehoe, Angela Halili and more.
